SelectReads How-To: Exploring Monthly Newsletters

Exploring Monthly Newsletters

Monthly newsletters are sent out around the end of the month, but you can view newsletters that have already been sent any time you want.

On the Monthly Newsletters page, click/tap on a category’s name or press the Preview button while hovering.

Mystery & Thrillers, Romance, and SciFi & Fantasy categories are shown. Mystery & Thrillers is highlighted and shows Preview and Select options.

This will take you to the most recently emailed newsletter for that category.

SelectReads monthly newsletter

Each item on the list includes some brief information about the book or movie. You can click the Read More button to access a more thorough description. The Read More page also includes ratings and reviews from GoodReads, plus more info like publisher, date, and author info.

Read More and Check Catalog buttons

Clicking the Check Catalog button will open a new tab in your browser and take you directly to that book or movie’s page in our catalog. From there, you can see if/where the item is available and place holds. You may need to log in with your library card and PIN to place your hold.

The newsletter archive is on the right-hand side of the page under Previous Editions. From there, you can look at lists we sent out in previous months.

If you like what you see, you can use the form on the side of the page to Subscribe to the next email newsletter for this category. You don’t need to give your name, just your email. Near the end of the month, you’ll receive an email with another selection of books or movies–all things you can check out from your library!

Printer and Graduation Cap icons

What about the printer and graduation hat icons? The printer will take you to a version of the monthly list without any side bar. It will also include the full summary for each title. Clicking the graduation cap will take you to a barebones list version of the page: just title, author, and ISBN for each book.
