On July 1st: the first episodes of the anime Space Brothers. Brothers Mutta and Hibito see a shooting star and promise each other that they’ll become astronauts. Years later, Hibito is prepping to go to the moon with NASA, while Hibito has just been fired for headbutting his boss. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) is searching for candidates for a mission to Mars, though. Can Hibito catch up? What does it take to be an astronaut?

This heavily-researched show, made with input from JAXA, is fan-rated at PG-13. It will be shown in Japanese with English subtitles. It can be streamed in its entirety, free with ads, through Crunchyroll. It is also included on other subscription streaming services such as HIDIVE.

On August 5th: Contact (1997). Dr. Ellie Arroway has dedicated her life to searching for extraterrestrial life. After a series of setbacks, her team picks up a signal that could only be from another intelligent species.

This film is rated PG and is based on the book Contact by astronomer, astrophysicist, and astrobiologist Carl Sagan.
