Kanopy is a digital library of movies and television shows, primarily recent award-winners, older “classic” films, documentaries, indie films, foreign productions, and educational videos. It is not curated by the library, and its collection may change unexpectedly.
Available to all of Lyon County.
Kanopy is available for Lyon County residents who have valid library cards from the Marshall, Cottonwood, Balaton, Minneota, or Tracy libraries. If you live in Lyon County but can’t register using your library card number, please contact your library.
To sign up, you’ll need your library card number, library pin/password, and an email address. After signing up, you’ll use your email and whatever password you chose to log into Kanopy on the website or your device.
5 items per calendar month.
Most videos can be viewed for up to 72 hours/3 days. With Great Courses titles, all videos in a course series count as one item and can be viewed for 30 days. With kids videos, each video can be viewed for 30 days.
Apps for iOS, Android, Amazon, & media streaming devices.
You can use Kanopy on your computer or on most Apple and Android smartphones and tablets, as well as newer Amazon Fire tablets. It can also be added to some media streaming devices like AppleTV, ChromeCast, Roku, and FireTV. It can be accessed through the Kanopy website or Kanopy app. For up-to-date technical requirements for apps and streaming, please check out Kanopy’s help files. Kanopy is streaming only; if you are streaming on a smart phone or other device that uses cellular data, you may wish to tell Kanopy to only stream when you’re connected to Wifi to avoid data overages. On the app, this can be toggled in the Settings menu.
