Winter Reading Program 2017

The winter reading program is open to anyone ages 16+ and runs from the beginning of January through the end of March.

This year, there are two ways to play! Try out either or both:

  1. Wild Winter Reading
    Read or listen to ten books of your choice. Just fill out the card with the titles!
  2. Readers’ Café Challenge
    Pick up one of the 4 menu cards and read or listen to the five types of books listed.
    Menu options are:

    1. Soup and Salad: A Lighter Fare
      • Read a book that youve wanted to read for a long time but never have
      • Read a book recommended by a library staff person
      • Read a title published in 2016 or 2017
      • Read an autobiography, biography, memoir, or fictionalized biography
      • Read a title from the Rory Gilmore Reading List
    2. Main Course: A Hearty Meal
      • Read a Pulitzer Prize winner
      • Read a book by a non-American author
      • Read a title found on Modern Library’s Best lists
      • Read a book published before 1968
      • Read a book that’s at least 400 pages
    3. Dessert: Sweetness and Light
      • Read a funny book
      • Read your favorite type of book
      • Read a book with a color, number, or season in the title
      • Read a book set around a holiday
      • Read a book set somewhere you would like to visit
    4. Beverages: Name Your Poison
      • Read a mystery or thriller
      • Read a romance or a poetry/essay collection
      • Read  science fiction, fantasy, or a book that has magic in it
      • Read a Western or historical fiction that takes place in the US
      • Read a book that takes place in another country
    5. Appetizers: Whet Your Appetite
      • Read a title in the Library’s short Takes collection
      • Read an entire issue of one of these magazines: Atlantic, Boundary Waters Journal, MN History, National Geographic, New Yorker, Reader’s Digest, Rolling Stone, or Smithsonian
      • Read 2 novellas or 5 short stories
      • Read 5 children’s picture books or 1 children’s chapter book
      • Read a teen book

When you have completed a card, drop it in the box for the basket you would like to win. Complete as many cards as you can; there’s no limit to the number of times you can enter. eBooks and downloadable audiobooks count, too.

All entries must be turned in by March 31, 2017. Winners will be notified the week of April 3rd. Prizes must be claimed no later than Friday, April 14th.
