Update 3/19: Important information from your library

Update March 19, 2020

To Our Library Customers,

While the Marshall Lyon County Library currently remains open, we have begun to curtail some of our services and activities:

  • Effective immediately, all Library programs and events, including all children’s programs, are canceled through April 11; we are working with the other groups who have booked the Community Room as to whether they will hold their events. Check our events calendar before coming to the Library to verify whether the event you are attending is still happening.
  • Effective immediately, the Little Learners Play Area in the Children’s Library is unavailable until further notice.
  • Effective immediately, half the public computers have been disabled so people using them can keep at least 6 feet away from each other.
  • Effective Monday, March 23, the Balaton and Cottonwood Branches will be closed until further notice.
  • Effective Monday March 23, we will expand our homebound delivery program to include anyone over the age of 60 or those with underlying health issues who are no longer leaving their homes.

We have always been vigilant about your safety and health, as well as our staff’s, which is why we have consistently focused on cleaning and sanitization of the high touch areas throughout our Library.  For example, toys and all flat surfaces in the children’s area have been cleaned daily, but in the last few weeks, we have upped that to multiple times daily.  We will continue to clean all high touch areas throughout the building, including computer keyboards and mice, multiple times each day.

Further, we have reminded all customers coming in to the Library to practice social distancing:

  • Maintain at least a 6 foot distance from each other
  • Limit your exchange with other customers or staff to less than 10 minutes
  • Limit handing things to each other, such as a Library card and materials

Currently, we are asking customers to hold onto their Library card while we scan it and lay their materials out so we can scan barcodes without handling the books.  At the end of the transaction, the receipt now prints so you can grab it yourself.  If you want to eliminate the short exchange with staff at the desk, we also have a self-checkout station, which staff can show you how to use (at a distance, of course).

Right now, limiting your time in all open and public spaces makes good sense and that should include the Library.  With that in mind, we remind you that you are always welcome to go online to request books and other materials through our catalog.  Calling 507-537-7003 or emailing library@marshalllyonlibrary.org works, too.  Just give us an hour to pull the items and have them waiting for you when you come in.  We like to think of this as “take-out for the brain.”

Don’t forget we also have a robust digital Library and access to statewide databases and ebooks MN.  Additionally, publishers, authors and vendors are making a number of their products and resources free, so we have created Resource pages with links to many of the free (or low cost) opportunities we’ve found.

Please let us know if you have any questions of concerns, including anything about COVID-19.  We will continue to be here for you in every way that is safe for you and our staff as we all weather this storm together as a community.
